Nordic Kayaks Squall: Fast, Stable, and Ready for Whatever the Ocean Throws at It
Meet the Squall — the surfski that quietly does everything well and isn't shy about it. Equal parts fitness machine, wave-hungry playboat, and capable all-rounder, the Squall is what happens when you refuse to compromise between stability and speed. Spoiler: you don't have to choose.
At 49 cm (19.3") wide, the Squall sits in that satisfying sweet spot — stable enough to build confidence and smash out a serious fitness session, but fast and responsive enough to have a genuinely great time when the waves start playing ball. And before you worry about that extra width slowing things down, the cleverly designed cockpit cutout allows for a tight, efficient paddle entry — so you can drive the ski with real speed, just like on the narrower models. Width without the guilt. Lovely.
The Squall is also notably easier to remount in open water than most of its competitors — which, if you've ever been unceremoniously tipped into the ocean mid-run, you'll know is not a small thing. It's the kind of reassurance that lets you push harder, knowing you can recover quickly if things go sideways (literally).
Inside the cockpit, you get the full Nordic Kayaks treatment: a beautifully comfortable ergonomic seat, an integrated bottle holder, and carbon side handles that look as good as they feel. Everything you need, nothing you don't.
The Squall comes in two sizes to suit a range of paddlers:
The Squall 580 features the long cockpit and fits paddlers from approximately 165 cm to 200 cm (5'5" to 6'7") and beyond. The Squall 540 features the short cockpit and suits paddlers from approximately 155 cm to 195 cm (5'1" to 6'5").
